Hazardous wastes, by their own nature, have the ability to cause harm, damage and risk to human life and the environment. It is therefore necessary to dispose of these wastes in a more controlled manner than general wastes. The legislation concerning the storage, carriage and disposal of hazardous wastes can be very complex and has the potential to cause many issues to the un-initiated.

Hazardous wastes are defined as wastes that pose one or more of the Hazard Properties HP1 – HP15 or those that are listed as hazardous waste in the European Waste Catalogue.

Recycling
